After terrorizing the Monterey Five in HBO’s Big Little Lies, Alexander Skarsgard will keep his villainous streak alive in the forthcoming miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. According to Collider, he’s been cast as the one and only Randall Flagg.
Skarsgard follows in the footsteps of Jamie Sheridan, who played the iconic role in Mick Garris’ 1994 miniseries. Technically speaking, the role was last filled by Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey in 2017’s The Dark Tower, but whatever. Move on.
The news comes on the heels of this morning’s stellar supporting cast additions which include Jovan Adepo as Larry Underwood, Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, Brad William Henke as Tom Cullen, and Daniel Sunjata as an overseeing military supervisor.

They all join a principal cast that includes James Marsden as Stu Redman, Amber Heard as Nadine Cross, Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abigail, Greg Kinnear as Glen Bateman, Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith, and Henry Zaga as Nick Andros. If you recall, Marilyn Manson is also lurking around the project, having confirmed he’s providing music and starring in an undisclosed role.
Published in 1978 and updated in 1990, the 1,200 page tome takes place in a world ravaged by an unstoppable plague, where the survivors are caught in an elemental struggle between good and evil. There are those who follow the prophetic wisdom of 108-year-old Mother Abagail, and there are those who follow the lead of the eternally evil Randall Flagg.

Once again, CBS All Access has ordered 10 episodes for the limited-series run. Writer and director Josh Boone is currently amidst pre-production for an anticipated 2020 release.
