Alex Trebek's Wife Reveals How She Copes With His Cancer Diagnosis

In an extremely rare interview, the wife of Alex Trebek, Jean Trebek revealed how she has been coping with Alex's pancreatic cancer diagnosis and helping him keep in good spirits.

Jean spoke with SurvivorNet on the phone where she discussed how her faith in Religious Science helps her "stay grounded" throughout this difficult time.

The 54-year-old is a licensed practitioner of Religious Science at the North Hollywood Church of Religious Science and has been using sound, meditation, and Reiki to heal herself and others for the last ten years.

How Does Alex Benefit?

Alex has been undergoing chemotherapy to treat his cancer and has credited Jean and "Jeopardy!" fans with helping stay upbeat and positive.

Jean told SurvivorNet that her beliefs and religious practices are her things but since she is staying grounded and feeling happy, she is able to pass those feeling along to the long-time game show host.

“It comes from a place of love, because I want to uplift him … and when I keep my own self buoyed and enjoying my life, I can actually share that with him. He can look at me and have a sense of ‘life is beautiful; my wife is doing something good,” Jean said.

She also had some advice for others who are suffering and feeling lost.

" Just ask the universe, ‘What’s the next step for me?’ The universe will always respond. I am absolutely sure that we live in a benevolent universe that is always conspiring for our highest and greatest good.”

Teen Champ Honors Trebek

There have been so many fans and "Jeopardy!" contestants who reached out and offered their support and well wishes but the 2019 Teen tournament champ went above and beyond.

18-year-old Avi Gupta walked away with $100,000, this past June but the truly amazing feat was when he decided to donate over $10,000 to cancer research in honor Alex Trebek. His donation went to the Knight Cancer Institute in Oregon and just in time for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November.

Gupta recorded a video to announce his donation and to encourage others to follow suit.

"I was inspired to give by Alex Trebek, the host of "Jeopardy!" and someone I looked up to my whole life. It was a dream come true earlier this year to finally join him on the "Jeopardy!" stage in the "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament and I'm honored to be able to make this donation to the Knight Cancer Institute to support him and the millions of others suffering from pancreatic cancer across the world."

Still Doing His Job

Alex is still hosting the show and is enjoyed having winners from the past compete in the Tournament of Champions.

Former contestant, James Holzhauer won the tournament and displayed amazing focus to give the question to all of Trebek's answers.

Holzhauer, who is a fan favorite, also made a donation to pancreatic cancer research in Trekbek's name. He gave $1,109.14 to the Naperville Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk and wrote: “For Alex Trebek and all the other survivors.”
