Alex Trebek sings Lizzo's 'Truth Hurts' on 'Jeopardy!' as coronavirus suspends production

Alex Trebek and Lizzo is the crossover we didn't know we needed.

The "Jeopardy!" host, 79, surprised viewers on Thursday's episode of the game show by reciting the catchy lyrics to Lizzo's Grammy-award winning single, "Truth Hurts."

When contestant Adam Smith selected the category "Lyrics of Today," Trebek read the $1,000 clue: "Her: New man on the Minnesota Vikings, truth hurts, needed something more exciting, bom bom bi dom bi dum bum bay."

Contestant Evan Singer correctly answered with a laugh, "Who is Lizzo?," prompting Trebek to make light of his singing capabilities.

“Yup – and I did it exactly like she does, didn’t I?" he sarcastically added.

The game show began filming without an audience earlier this month, before suspending production altogether on March 20 "until the current health crisis has passed."

"Jeopardy!" is currently airing pretaped episodes that were filmed before social distancing parameters were put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

"The episodes that are currently airing were taped several weeks ago – well before concerns about the coronavirus," the show's producers said on its website. "Any interactions between contestants, Alex or the studio audience took place when such actions were considered safe."

Trebek marked the first year of his Stage 4 pancreatic cancer battle on March 4. The CDC says older adults and those with preexisting medical conditions, including people who are immunocompromised from cancer treatment, are at a higher risk for severe illness from coronavirus.

"We take the well-being of our staff, crew, contestants, audience guests and host very seriously, and will not resume taping until it is completely safe," the show's producers added.
