“I planned it for about six months,” Rodriguez said. “And then it was on a beach in the Bahamas.”
J.Lo and A-Rod announced their engagement back in March, after the former baseball star proposed with a giant ring, which experts say may range anywhere between 10 and almost 20 carats.
The couple has mostly stayed mum on the details of their engagement, but A-Rod revealed that he put a lot of thought into planning the perfect proposal.
“I rehearsed three days in a row,” Rodriguez said. “’Cause I wanted the sunset to be perfect.”
While he wanted the sunset to be perfect, he quickly realized the weather might not cooperate.
“So one time the sunset was at 6:29, the next day it was at like 6:27,” Rodriguez explained. “Oh my gosh. And then [on the] third day it was raining. “
He ultimately decided to go with his gut.
“I kind of came out at around 6:29,” Rodriguez said. ” I said this is the time where I’m going to do it. And it worked out well. It worked out well.”
Even though Rodriguez worked hard to nail the timing of the proposal, the former Yankees player almost gave away the surprise by wearing his World Series ring.
“I’ve only worn this ring probably a handful of times. But I said, ‘This is a big moment,'” Rodgriguez explained to Fallon. “I kind of gave it away, ’cause when she saw me put on the ring she goes, ‘Where we going with that ring?'”
In the end, everything turned out exactly how he’d hoped. If the engagement ring is any indication, the wedding is sure to be just as spectacular.
