This weeks news brought with it a whole sandworm’s worth of Dune Part 2 coverage, from reviews to interviews, but that wasn’t all: we’ve got Cate Blanchett serving in the messy-looking Borderlands movie, a very cool X-Men figure, and a critical re-appraisal: Madame Web? Good, actually! With several asterisks. Check it out! — James Whitbrook
The New Civil War Trailer Sets Lincoln’s Legacy on Fire
We’ve already gotten one scary look at Civil War, and the new trailer for Alex Garland’s near-future action thriller is just as chilling—it’s light on fresh plot details, but heavy on disturbing atmosphere. America has splintered into factions at war with each other, with civilians, cities, and even beloved national monuments in the crosshairs. - Cheryl Eddy Read More
Stellan Skarsgård Went Through Hell Playing Baron Harkonnen
Playing a role where your body is artificially enlarged, you’re constantly attached to tubes, and you spend large portions in a mystery liquid is obviously not easy. But that’s exactly what Stellan Skarsgård had to do not once, but twice, to play the evil Baron Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. And while the actor admitted the process was “hell,” it seems as if it was worth it. - Germain Lussier Read More
Cate Blanchett Stuns in First Look at Inevitably Bad Borderlands Movie
If it feels like you’ve been hearing about the Borderlands movie for an awfully long time, well—our first glimpse of Cate Blanchett as red-headed bounty hunter Lilith came in June 2021. Now we have a much better look at her character beyond that enigmatic silhouette, and she looks great. The movie itself, well... TBD. - Cheryl Eddy Read More

Dune: Part Two Blows Away Your Sandworm-Sized Expectations
That’s saying something too because Dune: Part One—which won six well-deserved Oscars for technical achievement—was itself a remarkable accomplishment. This time, that level of skill is not just back, it might be better. Dune: Part Two looks stunning, filled with shots you’d be glad to hang on your wall. The attention to detail in every frame is masterful, with costumes and props that could be works of art on their own. You feel every sound and note of music in your bones as well as your heart. It’s also quite weird, fully embracing author Frank Herbert’s voice and originality. Much like the first film, the script by Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts is crafted in such a way that while every name or concept may not stick, the most crucial parts of the story are easy enough to understand. So even if you don’t know your Kwisatz Haderach from your Sietch Tabr, you get enough to enjoy it. - Germain Lussier Read More
Madame Web Is the Best Superhero Movie 2003 Has to Offer
You may have heard that Madame Web is not a good movie. That there are, in fact, things about Madame Web that could be described as “The Worst.” I am not here to refute those claims; there are in fact many things about Madame Web that are not what you would feasibly call “good.” But in its surprise camp turn, it embraces its period setting to deliver a potent reminder on how far superhero movies have come, and what they’ve lost along the way. - James Whitbrook Read More
Mondo’s Amazing Animated Rogue Figure Is Also an X-Men: Evolution Surprise
Mondo’s line of 12" figures based on the aesthetic of the legendary ‘90s X-Men cartoon is getting a heavy hitter in everyone’s favourite southern belle/loving daughter to two lesbian terrorists, the rambunctious Rogue! But while for the most part this is a loving celebration of that ‘90s take on the character, Mondo snuck in a little something for those that loved Anna Marie’s goth phase. - James Whitbrook Read More

But part of that horizon includes navigating the murky waters around the next Avengers movie. - James Whitbrook Read More
