Alec Baldwin recovering from hip replacement surgery after 'intense chronic pain'

Alec Baldwin is recovering after undergoing hip replacement surgery, according to his wife Hilaria Baldwin.

The yoga instructor and podcaster, 39, posted a photo of herself Tuesday lying in bed next to the actor, 65, who was dressed in a hospital gown as they both smiled.

"Alec got a new hip today," Hilaria Baldwin wrote on Instagram. "We have been through so much together … as your partner and as you heal. I want so very much for you to leave this very intense chronic pain chapter behind and improve your quality of life."

In the post, she went on to thank the team of doctors, nurses and staff working with Alec Baldwin and "bringing him safely through this."

The actor added one more statement of gratitude to the list in the comment section, "And you. Thanks to you...," he said to his wife.

Baldwin's surgery comes weeks after the actor wrapped filming his movie "Rust," which has been shrouded in controversy.

The movie's cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died on set after Baldwin fired a prop gun in her direction while filming the Western in 2021. Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins during a rehearsal when the gun discharged, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin, also a producer on the film, claimed that the gun fired accidentally and that he did not pull the trigger. An FBI forensic report found the weapon could not have been fired unless the trigger was pulled.

The on-set death was proceeded by legal drama as prosecutors investigated who was liable for Hutchins' death. Charges were filed against Baldwin and later dropped in April; the film's weapons supervisor, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is still facing involuntary manslaughter charges . But prosecutors said their decision to drop the charges "does not absolve Mr. Baldwin of criminal culpability and charges may be refiled."

Baldwin shared a selfie on Instagram May 16 celebrating the end of filming and revealing he shaved off his facial hair from his character in the Western film. "God, it felt good to shave off that beard…" he captioned the post.

The actor also reposted an Instagram Story at the time from his on-set son Lucas, played by Patrick Scott McDermott, in which the two shared a hug. "Alec's last day. I'll miss you," McDermott wrote.

A release date for the film has not been released yet.
