Alaska Airlines Debuts New Mickey's Toontown-Themed Airplane Featuring Classic Disney Characters

The plane, named Mickey’s Toontown Express, took artists over 400 hours and 20 days to hand-paint

Mickey Mouse and his friends are taking to the skies with Alaska Airlines.

Earlier this week, the major American airline announced in a press release that its latest themed aircraft will draw inspiration from Disneyland — specifically Mickey’s Toontown at the famed theme park in Anaheim, California.

The plane, named “Mickey’s Toontown Express,” will fly on routes across Alaska Airlines' network and is the company's eighth livery in collaboration with Disneyland Resort, per the release.

Featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland Park, the Boeing 737-800 also includes Chip ‘n’ Dale on the boarding doors and winglets.

Crafting the exterior of the aircraft took artists over 400 hours and 20 days to hand-paint, Alaska Airlines said.

Travelers will be able to fly on "Mickey’s Toontown Express” plane over the next several years before it reaches the end of its normal rotation, Alaska Airlines said in its release.

The airline also features other Disneyland Resort-themed liveries, including "Friendship and Beyond at the Disneyland Resort,” which shows Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story characters such as Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie at Pixar Pier at the Disney California Adventure Park.

Elsewhere, the “Star Wars Transport to the Disneyland Resort" is a dark-colored livery that celebrates Disneyland Park's Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and features the Millennium Falcon on the tail chased by TIE fighters.

Alaska Airlines and Disney previously allowed several families and special guests to travel on the inaugural “Mickey’s Toontown Express" flight, with perks that included priority boarding for families with children under two, family seating at no additional charge and coloring books.

Guests flying in the plane's premium and main cabins also received a kids’ choice picnic pack and a jetsetter’s jam sandwich, the airline said.

Looking ahead, the Disney-themed plane will offer activity books and snack packs onboard with designs that feature Mickey Mouse and his cartoon friends, while supplies last, according to Alaska Airlines.

“It’s heartening how much our Disneyland Resort-themed airplanes spark joy in our guests — young and young at heart," Sangita Woerner, Alaska’s senior vice-president of marketing and guest experience, said in a statement.

"What makes this even more special is the return of Mickey Mouse on an Alaska Airlines plane since he made his debut on our fleet eight years ago,” she continued. “Alaska’s long-standing relationship with the Disneyland Resort has helped to create unforgettable experiences for our guests and employees. As a family-friendly airline, it speaks to the care we strive to show every day with these special touches.”

In a statement of her own, Sybil Crum, vice president of marketing and commercial strategy at Disneyland Resort, praised Alaska Airlines for their longtime commitment to serving Disney aficionados.

“Our relationship with Alaska Airlines is more than 25 years strong and truly celebrates the magic of Disney,” she said. “The plane’s artwork marks Alaska Airlines’ eighth transformation of an aircraft featuring Disney artistry and exhibits the excitement and playfulness of the re-imagined Mickey’s Toontown."

Crum added: "We’re so delighted for the opportunity to create even more memorable experiences for our guests together."
