Alan Rickman's diaries, spanning 25 years of his life, will be released as a book

Fans will be given a rare glimpse into the life of Alan Rickman, when his diaries are released as a book in fall 2022.

Released by publishing house Canongate, The Diaries of Alan Rickman will shine a light on his life and career spanning 25 years and feature stories from the sets of some of his biggest stage productions and films, including the decade he spent making magic as part of the Harry Potter franchise, I which he portrayed misunderstood wizard Severus Snape. Rickman died in 2016 from pancreatic cancer.

“I’m delighted that Canongate will be publishing Alan’s diaries, and couldn’t have wished for a finer appointment of editor than Alan Taylor,” Rickman's widow, Rima Horton, told The Guardian in a statement. “The diaries reveal not just Alan Rickman the actor, but the real Alan – his sense of humor, his sharp observation, his craftsmanship and his devotion to the arts.”

Taylor, who had been with Rickman since 1965, told the outlet his diaries are “anecdotal, indiscreet, witty, gossipy and utterly candid, they make compulsive reading and offer a peerless insight into the daily life of a remarkable actor who was as beloved in the US as he surely was in the UK.”

The publisher teases the Emmy and BAFTA-award winning actor's diaries were written as if he "was chatting with a close friend." Adding, "They are intimate, perceptive and very funny.”

Throughout Rickman's lengthy career, he appeared in holiday favorites Die Hard and Love, Actually, Sense and Sensibility, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Bottle Shock, and Galaxy Quest, among others.

The Diaries of Alan Rickman will debut in the fall of 2022.
