Alan Parker Heads Main Competition Jury at Camerimage

Director-writer Alan Parker (“Midnight Express,” “Angel Heart”) serves as jury president of the main competition at the Camerimage film festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The fest runs until Nov. 19.

The other main jury members are DP Michael Barrett (“Bobby,” “Ted”), special effects supervisor Neil Corbould (“Saving Private Ryan,” “Gravity”), DP Michael Seresin (“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”), DP Gérard Simon (“Lautrec,” “Le roi danse”), DP Oliver Stapleton (“The Cider House Rules,” “Ned Kelly”), and DP Robert D. Yeoman (“Bridesmaids,” “Grand Budapest Hotel”).

This is the 24th edition of Camerimage, also known as the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography because it focuses specifically on the work and artistry of DP’s.

The juries for the other competitions are:

In the Polish films competition, Jos Stelling (director of “The Ilusionist) presides over a jury that includes cinematographers Ross Emery (“The Wolverine”), Larry Fong (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”), and Marcel Zyskind (“The Killer Inside Me”); and Laurel Saint-Pierre, director of exhibitions at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In the Student Etudes competition, the jury president is director Michael Apted (“Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “The World Is Not Enough”). The jury members are cinematographers Muriel Aboulrouss (“ife After Death”), Jacqueline B. Frost (“Naked Under Leather”), and Roberto Schaefer (“Quantum of Solace”); and producer Bonnie Voland, who is also head of marketing and publicity for IM Global.

Apted, a former president of the Directors Guild of America, will also receive the Camerimage lifetime achievement award.

Director-producer Terry Sanders (“The Legend of Marilyn Monroe”) presides over the documentary features competition. Other members of that jury are cinematographers Louis-Philippe Cappelle (“Juste une question”) and Hans Albrecht Lusznat (“Body and Brain”); Journalist-writer Larry Grobel; and director Monika Pawluczuk (“End of the World”).

In documentary shorts, director-producer-editor Jay Rosenblatt (“Human Remains”) leads four DPs: Christian Frei, Marcin Koszałka, Suki Medenčević, and Wolfgang Thaler.

“Time Code” director Mike Figgis serves as president of the music video competition. Jury members are cinematographers Simon Duggan, Larry Fong, and John Perez; and journalist-critic-publicist David Knight.

DP Anthony Dod Mantle (“Slumdog Millionaire”) presides over the directors’ debuts contest, which also groups cinematogrphers Tuomo Hutri and Anthony Pierce-Roberts; production designer Andrzej Haliński; and actress Małgorzata Zajączkowska.

In the competition for cinematographers’ debuts, DP Dick Pope (“Mr. Turner”) oversees the group comprising cinematographers Jacek Laskus, Nina Kellgren, and Dante Spinotti; and director Veiko Õunpuu.

DP John Toll (“Braveheart,” “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”) presides over the first look – TV pilots competition. The other jurors are cinematographers James Hawkinson and Checco Varese; producer Carol Cuddy; and critic Giona A. Nazzaro.

In the advertising spots competition, journalist Magdalena Daniłoś presides over a three-person jury that also includes marketing specialist Filip Nocny and copywriter-creative director Jan Majle
