How Disney's new 'Aladdin' made 'A Whole New World' come alive
Who hasn't fantasized about taking a magic carpet ride after seeing 1992's animated classic Aladdin?
Theme park rides aside, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott can now say they've come closest. The stars of the new live-action Aladdin remake told Yahoo Entertainment how they captured the "A Whole New World" sequence in Disney's new hit film (watch above).
"They built a rig 30 feet off the ground, and this robotic arm had the rig on it, and it moved any which way because they had 32 different points of hydraulics attached," explained Massoud, who plays the title role.
It was an experience full of highs (natch) and lows for Scott, who costars as Jasmine.
"It was very uncomfortable up there, I'm not going to lie," she said. "We were strapped in, harnessed in, because otherwise we would fall off. But it was actually like exercise. … You'd have to hold your own weight, and then when we got off for like days after we felt really stiff.
"But as soon as that song plays, all of that goes out the window. And you can just enjoy it and be in the moment. But then as soon as they call 'Cut!,' you're like, 'Oh, my ankles!'"
