The Dick Cheney biopic Vice dropped this past Christmas, and it had a lot of surprising elements that are atypical of other biopics, such as the mid-film credits. However, on Monday (Mar. 11) a deleted song-and-dance scene was dropped, led by Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard.

Howard’s powerful voice belts out the shadiness to the political world that no one sees, as Donald Rumsfeld, played by Steve Carrell, explains to Cheney, played by Christian Bale, the ins and outs of succeeding the Washington bureaucracy.

“So you want to climb that ladder, where power’s served upon a patter?” Howard sings in the lunchroom. “Hear only yes and never no and I always have the final say-so.”

“We tried 15 versions of it,” Director Adam McKay told Variety. “We moved it here, we moved it there. We played it really short. We played it way longer and put scenes in the middle of it. We tried every single thing you could do. The only reason it doesn’t pain me at this moment is because I know we tried everything we could do.”
