After securing the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday night, University of Alabama quarterback Mac Jones reflected on one of the most turbulent college football seasons in recent memory.

Jones, 22, helped to lead Alabama to earn its 18th national title with a 52-24 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Of course, the game concludes a college football season that was in doubt last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. During a visit on Good Morning America, Jones said he was thankful the NCAA moved forward with the season.

"We didn't even know if we were going to have a full season or if we were going to start and then stop, so I just give my hat's off to the administration and NCAA and SEC for allowing to us play a full season," Jones told the program. "It feels great to be where we are — this is right where we wanted to be — it's something that we're all grateful for."

As GMA notes, Jones was a finalist for the Heisman trophy, but the honor went to his teammate, wide receiver DeVonta Smith. It was the first time a wide receiver earned the trophy in almost 30 years.

In the championship game, Jones put on an impressive performance and threw for five touchdown passes, helping to cement their undefeated season.

Now, all eyes will turn to Jones' impending decision to join the NFL or return to the school for one more season.

"I feel like I've put myself in a good position to do either one," he told GMA. "Obviously I love coach Saban and Alabama, but at the same time there's a great opportunity in the NFL but I just have to -- kind of weigh the pros and cons and look at them and see what's best for me and my family."

The national championship win was also head coach Nick Saban's sixth during his tenure with Alabama.

"He told us to just stay even-keeled and try not to get too up or too down in the game," Jones said of Saban's words for the team. "Injuries happen — and we had guys out there playing that were young guys, we had guys that were hurt, so just to be out there and try and finish through for our team was just something that Coach Saban has kind of instilled in us."

In an interview with ESPN, Jones did not mince words about what he thought of his team.

"I think we're the best team to ever play," he said. "There's no team that will ever play an SEC schedule like that again."

Jones added: "We're just so happy to have won this game and kind of put the icing on the cake."
