Alabama player was suspended 4 games for selling team-issued items
Alabama released its list of self-reported NCAA infractions on Friday. Of the 22 secondary violations, nine included the football team.
The school said a “current” football player was suspended for four games at the start of the 2016 season for selling “institutional issued items and participation awards.” The player’s punishment, according to the school, was to pay $820 — ostensibly the amount he received for the items — to a charity.
Alabama coach Nick Saban was also directly involved with a secondary violation. The school said he “inadvertently used a wrong number for a coach and called prospective student-athlete prior to September 1 of his senior year.”
Another staff member was suspended for a game because he provided in-game instruction to a player even though he was not a coach.

— Head coach inadvertently used a wrong number for a coach and called prospective student-athlete prior to September 1 of his senior year.
— Current student-athlete sold multiple pieces of institutional issued items and participation awards.
— A non-coaching staff member provided tactical instruction to student-athlete during competition.
— Current student-athlete participated in an impermissible promotional activity.
— Current mid-year enrollee tweeted a message publically stating he was excited to host a specific PSA on the PSA’s official visit.
— Assistant coach replied to a direct Twitter message from a prospect prior to the first permissible date to send Twitter correspondence.
— An assistant coach called a prospect prior to the first permissible calling date.
— Assistant coach engaged in impermissible off-campus contact with a prospect.
— Members of football coaching staff permitted an impermissible recruiter to be present during an off-campus contact.
The violations in all sports were Level III or Level IV NCAA violations and the school released a list of corrective actions taken for each violation that was reported.
