Alabama LB Dylan Moses out indefinitely with foot injury
It looks like Alabama will be without one of its top young linebackers for the College Football Playoff.
Nick Saban announced Tuesday that freshman Dylan Moses suffered a foot injury in practice on Monday. As a result, Moses “will be out indefinitely,” Saban said. Multiple outlets reported earlier Tuesday that Moses’ foot is broken with BamaInsider.com reporting that Moses’ injury will require surgery.
Alabama has been hampered by injuries at linebacker all season, leading to the insertion of Moses into the starting lineup. An All-SEC freshman team selection, Moses tallied 30 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and an interception in 11 games this season. The former five-star recruit led the Tide with 10 tackles against Auburn.
Other linebackers like Shaun Dion Hamilton, Mack Wilson, Terrell Lewis and Christian Miller have all missed significant action this season.
Miller and Lewis were initially ruled out for the season in September, but were able to return for the regular season finale against Auburn. Wilson also returned for the Iron Bowl. Hamilton, the team’s top middle linebacker, won’t return this season.
In the team’s recent game notes, Wilson and Moses were listed as co-starters in the middle with Jamey Mosley and Lewis as co-starters at the Sam backer and Rashaan Evans at the Will. Moses was also listed as Evans’ backup at Will linebacker.
The Crimson Tide, despite not making the SEC title game, was placed at the No. 4 spot in the Playoff to square off with No. 1 Clemson in a rematch of the 2015 and 2016 national title games. The Tide and Tigers will meet in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.
