Alabama basketball’s Jahvon Quinerly staying for another year
Jahvon Quinerly will stay with Alabama basketball for another season, he announced on Twitter on Saturday.
Serving as the Crimson Tide's starting point guard, he was second on the team in scoring (13.8 points per game) and assists (4.2).
He suffered an ACL tear in Alabama's season-ending loss to Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in March. That same weekend, he posted an Instagram caption that called it his last game of his college career, but he later deleted that sentence.
“He was going to test the draft process," Oats said immediately after the March Madness game. "His plan was to go be a professional. It’s obviously going to put a big kink in those plans.”
He also went through senior day, but that doesn't exclude a player from returning. Instead, he will be back for a third season playing for the Crimson Tide after he transferred from Villanova ahead of the 2019-20 season.

He was named the SEC Tournament's most outstanding player in 2021 and a member of the SEC All-Tournament team.
Even with Quinerly having an inconsistent season, the loss of him to an ACL injury early against Notre Dame stung the Crimson Tide. The Fighting Irish could focus its defense on Jaden Shackelford.
"Having the two of them in there together is what really makes them go," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said. "So that really changed them."
Shackelford, Alabama's leading scorer the past two years, entered his name in the draft pool. So, too, did guards JD Davison and Keon Ellis.
As far as guards go, Alabama is set to add Ohio transfer Mark Sears as well as freshman five-star Jaden Bradley and four-star rRylan Griffen.
