Ala. Officer on Leave After Video Shows Her Allegedly Using Stun Gun on Handcuffed Black Man, Berating Him

An Alabama police officer is on leave after appearing in a now-viral video allegedly laughing at a handcuffed Black man before using a stun gun on him.

The video, which has been circulated widely on the internet, shows the officer, who works for the Reform Police Department but has not been publicly identified, leading the man toward her police cruiser and having him lean on the hood of the car.

The man informs the officer he has a gun, which she then removes from his pocket, places on the hood of the car, laughs, and says “Oh yeah?”

“What you saying ‘Oh yeah,’ for?,” he responds, right as the officer begins to tase him.

“Shut the f— up,” the officer says as she uses the stun gun on the man’s back. The man begins to cry.

“Do you want it again?” the officer asks before telling him to shut up again. The video ends after the officer says, “You was big and bad, shut your b— a— up.”

Reform Mayor Melody Davis and police Chief Richard Black addressed the video in a statement.

“The Reform Police Department is aware of a video circulating involving a citizen’s arrest on December 2, 2023,” the statement says. “The department is in the process of turning over all materials related to this arrest to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation. In accordance with City Policy, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted.”

The man in the video is identified in Pickens County Jail records as Micah Washington, 24, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was charged with obstructing governmental operations, resisting arrest, marijuana possession, ex-felon in possession of a firearm and drug trafficking. He was released on Dec. 5 on $505,000 bond, records indicate. It is not clear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney.

Washington's girlfriend Jalexis Rice told NBC affiliate WVTM-13 that Washington and two friends were changing their car's tire when the officer stopped.
