Roker was quick to share his excitement after his daughter became a mom. The weatherman told his Today co-hosts all about the "magical" feeling of having a granddaughter.

"The thing is, everyone tells you it’s going to be 'this thing' and you don’t know; it’s like when they tell you about having your first child," he said on the morning show in July 2023. "And then to hold this little girl, knowing almost 35 years ago I held her mom? And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long and she’s just perfect."

It's more than fitting that Roker's granddaughter is called Sky. However the Today star insists her name has "nothing to do with the fact that I'm a weather person."

'A Perfect Blessing'

The TV star gave Today viewers a first glimpse of his granddaughter on air.

"Thank you, Courtney and Wes for such a perfect blessing," said Roker, who also revealed he planned to go by Pop-Pop. "Your baby is beautiful. Already planning the ways to spoil her and then hand her back."

Months after her birth, the new grandpa spent his first solo overnight with baby Sky. While he called it the "perfect weekend," on Instagram, Roker also got candid about caring for a little one.

"I forgot how hard a 3+ month old is on your own," he wrote on social media. "24 hours without a shower. Whew."

"I tell you, the thing that's kept me going is I've had a new granddaughter," he said.

Roker also told Entertainment Tonight that the best part of being a grandfather was how "you could love up on 'em, and then you give them back."

"If I had known they were this much fun, I would've had them first. It's the best," he said.
