Al Roker shut down a critic of the "Today" show who wasn't happy about the news that Hoda Kotb would be replacing Matt Lauer was one of the co-anchors of NBC's premiere morning show.

On Twitter on Tuesday morning, Roker shared a selfie with Kotb and fellow co-anchor Savannah Guthrie to congratulate Kotb on the major new gig. In response to his tweet, a Twitter user took the opportunity to share his displeasure with the announcement.

"Sorry Hoda ur [sic] great with Kathylee [sic] but not as anchor," @kgtchr tweeted. "Was looking for a seasoned man - guess NBC doesn't have one."

Roker took the opportunity to tee off on the negative response in regards to the "Today" show now being fronted by two female anchors, instead of a male and a female.

"Sounds like you want a steak, not an anchor," he responded.

Roker's tweet quickly went viral on Tuesday, garnering over 800 retweets and 8,000 likes. @kgtchr tried to defend herself after realizing Roker had responded, claiming that "it's not a gender issue but rather personality. You all are in hype over the wrong issue."
