Would Al Roker replace Megyn Kelly on 'Today'?

What are the chances that Al Roker could replace Megyn Kelly in the third hour of "Today"?

The move would be a full-circle moment for Roker, who joined the NBC morning show full-time in 1996, as it was "Megyn Kelly Today" that replaced "Today's Take" in the 9 a.m. hour last year. "Today's Take," which was co-hosted by Roker and Tamron Hall, was well-rated and the move to cancel it to make room for Kelly didn't go over well. In fact, Hall left NBC altogether and is now developing her own talk show at competitor network, ABC.

Us Weekly reports this week that "morale is extremely low" at NBC right now in the wake of its decision to cancel "Megyn Kelly Today" following the host's defense of blackface during the show's Halloween coverage. Kelly is currently in negotiation talks to exit the network, leaving NBC scrambling to come up with a plan to replace her.

For his part, Roker "doesn't necessarily want to return" as the host of the 9 a.m. hour of "Today," a source said.

"It's honestly quite offensive that NBC would just assume he would," the source continued.

Initial speculation around Kelly's possible replacement pointed toward "The Voice" coach Kelly Clarkson, whose upcoming talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show" -- slated to premiere in the fall of 2019 -- was picked up by the NBC Owned Television Station Group. The move will give the show a presence in nearly 30 percent of US households.

Radar Online reported last month that NBC network execs "think it might be perfect time to give [Kelly's] 'Today' time slot to Kelly, who has a huge fan base and is extremely well-liked and relatable."

Not only is Clarkson already "a huge part of the NBC family," unlike Kelly who came from Fox News, but she is also reportedly "willing to take on any job thrown her way."

Decision-makers at NBC also like the fact that Clarkson is anything but controversial.

"Kelly is the most non-biased person on the planet, and does not have an ounce of racism in her," another source told Radar.

Since Kelly's exit from the show, the third hour of "Today" has featured a mixture of host's and formats as NBC struggles to figure out what to do.

Last year, when Matt Lauer was fired from the network after complaints of sexual misconduct in the workplace, NBC took a little over a month to confirm that Hoda Kotb would be his permanent replacement.
