Al Roker Involved in a ‘Moonlight’-‘La La Land’ Moment on ‘Today’

Al Roker was at the University of Oklahoma to attempt to achieve two Guinness World Records on Today. He was also planning on awarding one lucky student with a scholarship check for $5,000, but that didn’t exactly go as planned, in a moment that reminded the Today folks of the infamous La La LandMoonlight Best Picture winner mix-up at the Academy Awards.

After Roker announced Kelsey Hawk as the winner, an excited girl ran up to claim her award. Upon seeing the paper, however, she told Roker that that wasn’t her last name. She had heard incorrectly, and her name was actually Kelsey Hull. Another excited girl, the real Kelsey Hawk, ran up to claim her award.

The story had a happy ending, however, as Roker awarded both girls with the scholarship, and everyone went home a winner.
