Serrin Joy, Akron's own American Idol, will spend her birthday Friday doing just what she loves: performing a concert in Northeast Ohio.

The Akron native, who will turn 22, will wrap up her Prelude Tour at 7:30 p.m. at Create-A-Space at 30480 Lakeshore Blvd. in Willowick, after performances in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York.

The Firestone high school graduate, a trap soul and R&B singer, competed on "American Idol" in 2021 and made it to the Hollywood round.

Joy moved to Hollywood in February after being signed by A&R Productions with singer-songwriter-producers Rick Broomfield, Remo the Hitmaker and Avery Segars. Now studying at AMDA Los Angeles in West Hollywood, Joy will receive a bachelor degree in music business and commercial music in the spring.

On Friday, she'll offer a listening party that will give a sneak peek of her upcoming project to be released later this year. Comedian Jack Shepherd, known for his role on Def Comedy Jam, will host the event.

Akron native Jonathan Lewis, a University of Akron student, also will perform original acoustic/pop music.

To celebrate Joy's birthday, the evening will end with an open jam session.

The event, which costs $20, is for those 18 and older. Cash bar and food will be offered. For tickets, also available at the door, see zez.am/SerrinJoyMusic.
