AJR reschedules Norfolk Scope show after cancellation, admits fault
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Indie pop band AJR will perform at Norfolk Scope after all, following the abrupt cancellation of their tour opener last week.
The new date is Sunday, June 23, and tickets for the previously scheduled April 2 show will be honored, AJR says.
In a statement, AJR also acknowledged the issues that led to the cancellation were on its end, after some vague indications from the band initially that Scope had dropped the ball.

“We came to find out that our original production team was aware of challenges for the show in Norfolk and didn’t take the necessary steps to prepare,” AJR wrote in a statement. “We are so bummed this happened, but we’ve been working closely with the team at Scope Arena who’ve been amazing in helping us work out a solution and are ready to bring The Maybe Man back to Norfolk!”
The issue had to do with the size of the band’s production, including “multiple larger-than-life 3D optical illusions” that AJR said couldn’t fit at Scope in time for the show.
The trio of brothers, best known for “Bang!” and “Yes I’m a Mess,” ended up opening their first arena tour in Philadelphia instead.

The City of Norfolk said the band sold just under 6,000 tickets for the roughly 11,000-seat Scope, though promoter Live Nation says sales are higher at other stops on the 49-date arena tour, including two nights at Madison Square Garden. Over 400,000 tickets have been sold for the tour to date.
