Convicted murderer Aileen Wuornos was given six death penalties for killing six middle-aged men. Known as America’s first female serial killer, she was executed on October 9, 2002, by lethal injection at the Florida State Prison in Starke. The Florida Department of Corrections pronounced the 46-year-old officially dead at 9:47 a.m. ET, as per CNN. The confessed serial killer served a decade on death row.

The outlet further reported that Wuornos, dubbed ‘The Highway Hooker’ and ‘The Damsel of Death,’ confessed to committing the six murders in 1989 and 1990. She admitted to luring some of the victims by pretending to be a helpless motorist on the Floridian highways.

What did Aileen Wuornos say in her last interview?

According to UPI, Aileen Wuornos’ execution stemmed from electrician Harry Mallory’s 1989 killing in Palm Harbour, Florida. She later admitted to five other murders and was also suspected of murdering a seventh man.

Prison spokesman Sterling Ivy said that they woke “her [Wuornos] up at 5:30” on the morning of October 9, 2002. Following this, “she requested a towel and washcloth to wash her face and freshen up.” Ivy further stated that she was not her talkative self that morning and remained calm throughout. The 46-year-old refused to have a traditional last meal but was given a cup of coffee instead.

Sources state that Wuornos went to her death willingly after firing her attorneys. She even opposed the appeals made on her behalf. However, she made one final statement, saying, “Yes, I would just like to say I’m sailing with the rock.”

The convicted serial killer‘s final message also involved a cryptic message, which read, “I’ll be back, like Independence Day with Jesus. June 6, like the movie. Big mother ship and all, I’ll be back, I’ll be back.”

Wuornos became the first woman to be executed in Florida after Judy Buenoano, who was electrocuted on March 30, 1998, as per the same UPI report. Buenoano was dubbed the ‘black widow’ for her crimes. She reportedly poisoned her husband, drowned her handicapped son, and tried to kill her boyfriend.
