Initially, it felt wrong to think of Ahsoka as the first season of a brand-new series. Disney+'s latest Star Wars spinoff was technically an extension of the character's appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fettbut even those shows continued Ahsoka Tano's story in the Star Wars universe. Before Tano was played by Rosario Dawson, she was an animated character in Star Wars: Rebels for over a decade. Still, if you've been keeping track to the story so far, you may be confused as to why Ahsoka somehow felt like a whole new beginning.

Throughout Ahsoka's eight episodes, showrunner Dave Filoni was tasked with delicately balancing the needs of both longtime fans and newcomers. It's no small feat. Appeasing audiences who loved Dawson's Ahsoka Tano in the Mando-verse while also adding new characters from 1990's Star Wars novels is a constant battle. With many new IP properties, the question is usually, "Who is this for?" For better or for worse, the studio is often forced to appease everyone by not taking a side. So, as diehard fans of long-forgotten Star Wars lore sat side-by-side with Baby Yoda stans, Lucasfilm hoped that audiences would remain satisfied.

What fans received was a series that aimed to set up many new villains and introduce live-action heroes into the official Star Wars canon. It's a launching point for a whole new world of stories, even if you didn't yelp with glee because you already knew who the cool blue guy from the Thrawn novels was. With the Disney+ series, audiences finally experienced stories from people not named Skywalker. But how long will their stories be told?

Well, the fact that Disney+ calls Ahsoka a "miniseries" isn't a good sign. Ahsoka just concluded with its eighth episode on October 3, 2023, but it's clear from the season finale that her story isn't over. The series has set up many unanswered plot threads and characters with unfulfilled journeys. Grand Admiral Thrawn just finally showed his face, and Star Wars fans are certainly not ready to see him go just yet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a second season of Ahsoka is dependent on the success of the Mando-verse as a whole. Her story is interlocked with the timelines of Mandalorian characters, and they're all still set to collide in a future Mandalorian movie. If anything, it's possible that Ahsoka Tano and her friends finish their stories in theaters. That being said, a second season of Ahsoka is still "in the conversation," Deadline reports. If it gives me more space whales and hermit crab aliens, I'm all for it.
