“Ahsoka” is quietly going down as one of the best pieces of “Star Wars” content we’ve had in years alongside “Andor.” Playing largely as a live-action fifth season of the cherished animated series “Rebels,” this Disney+’s hit takes place after “Return of the Jedi” when the Galactic Empire has fallen. However, all is not as well in the galaxy as it might seem as former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano begins to uncover a plot to re-introduce the Empire into a galaxy still finding its feet amidst a new order.

A large part of the show’s success should be attributed to Rosario Dawson, who plays Ahsoka as wise, calm, and assured in the face of so much uncertainty and chaos. Dawson brings to life this live-action version of Ahsoka with maturity, sophistication, and a deftness of touch that befits the character’s arc from bratty youth in the early seasons of the animated series “The Clone Wars” to the wisened, world-weary, contemplative key figure of the rebel force. And critics agree.

Peter Travers (ABC News) proclaimed: “No lightsabers can match the fierce glow of Rosario Dawson as the ex-Jedi with the funky headgear… Rosario Dawson is quietly riveting as ex-Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano, playing her brilliantly like a gathering storm.” He concluded: “‘Ahsoka’ belongs not to dudes but to its women warriors. Dawson anchors the series.”

Aramide Tinubu (Variety) explained: “Dawson brings a commanding but haunted presence to the meticulous and contemplative humanoid. Fans of the Togrutan fighter will undoubtedly rejoice in the actor’s careful work in bringing Ashoka to life, from the phrasing and pacing of her words to her precise movements during battle. This series divulges the intricacies of her rich and complex history.”

Dan Jolin (Empire) observed: “Age and tragedy have hardened her, but the once-quippy Snips has matured into an almost serene warrior. She’s portrayed by Dawson with a preternatural coolness in heated situations, whether she’s cornered by a quartet of deadly HK assassin droids or standing in a room with a bomb that’s counting down to boom-time. We’ve been primed for Dawson’s take on Tano, thanks to her guest appearances in ‘The Mandalorian’ and that Boba Fett thing that happened, but it’s a treat to finally spend more time with her”

However, while these reviews sum up why Dawson is so good in the role, she is currently outside of predicted nominees for the Golden Globe award for Best Drama Actress: Sarah Snook (“Succession”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”), Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”), and Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”). This is some tough competition, but Dawson deserves some time in the spotlight after being shunned by major awards groups for so long despite a fantastic CV to her name.

Dawson had major roles in several major movies including “25th Hour,” “Sin City,” “Rent,” and “Seven Pounds.” She also starred in Disney’s remake of “Haunted Mansion,” which released earlier this year. Plus, Dawson was a key part of Netflix’s successful run of Marvel TV shows. She played Claire Temple in “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” and “The Defenders.” And let’s not forget her fabulous turn in the beloved “Jane the Virgin.” But, despite all those great roles, she’s still never been nominated for a Golden Globe.

However, she does have four Critics’ Choice Awards nominations to her name. Two came for Best Ensemble in 2006 for “Sin City” and “Rent” while she also picked up a Best Song bid for “Rent,” (for “Seasons of Love”). She was also nominated for Best Comedy Actress in 2015 for “Top Five.” She also won the Gold Derby award for Best Drama Guest Actress in 2021 for “The Mandalorian.” These nominations show that Dawson is well-liked but has never received the sort of attention her talents deserve. At this point, Dawson is owed a Golden Globe bid as a career nomination, particularly as she has helped to rejuvenate the name of “Star Wars” with her live-action role of Ahsoka, which she originated in “The Mandalorian” before reprising the role in “The Book of Boba Fett.” Now, with “Ahsoka,” she does take center stage and this is the perfect time for Globe voters to nominate a hard-working, respected actress who deserves the spotlight to be shone on her a little.

Besides, we know that Globe voters like “Star Wars” shows — they nominated “The Mandalorian” for Best Drama Series in 2021. That show has also been nominated for a total of six Primetime Emmys and 42 Creative Arts Emmys. It has won 14 Emmys in total so far while “Andor” has eight Emmy bids in total to its name. “Star Wars,” after the disappointing trilogy of sequel movies, is beginning to earn some respect again, particularly from awards groups. “Ahsoka” could continue that trend as it is one of the best-reviewed “Star Wars” shows yet with an impressive score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. And Dawson could, at last, be the beneficiary of that awards love and finally earn that long-overdue Golden Globe nomination.
