A new era of America’s Got Talent is almost upon us.

AGT: Fantasy League, the latest spinoff in NBC’s ever-growing franchise, is mixing things up with two simultaneous competitions — in addition to 40 returning acts competing against one another for the $200,000 grand prize, there will also be a winner declared among the judges.

Each of the show’s four judges will draft a fantasy team consisting of 10 fan-voted acts, giving them a vested interest in the outcome of the season. Things get even more cutthroat when you add in the Golden Buzzer, which now enables the judges to steal acts from one another.

Ahead of AGT: Fantasy League‘s two-hour premiere on NBC, so read on for a breakdown of everything we know, including which judges are returning (and which one isn’t), how the “voting” works this time around and more.

Once you’ve taken it all in, drop a comment with your early thoughts. Which acts are you looking forward to seeing? And which 10 would you draft to your personal Fantasy League?

Fresh off Season 18 of AGT, which wrapped in September, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel are all returning to the judges’ panel for AGT: Fantasy League. They’re joined by former Spice Girl Mel B, last seen by AGT fans as a judge in Season 1 of AGT: The Champions in 2019.

Terry Crews is also returning as host, a position he took over from Tyra Banks in 2019.

Though Vergara has not released an official statement about missing Fantasy League, it’s business as usual for a regular-season AGT judge to sit out of a spinoff. For example, Mel B was replaced by Alesha Dixon for the second season of AGT: The Champions, and Simon Cowell was the only judge to return for NBC’s short-lived AGT: Extreme (alongside newbies Nikki Bella and Travis Pastrana).

Unless AGT announces otherwise, Vergara is expected to return as a judge for Season 19 in 2024.

How Does Voting Work on AGT: Fantasy League?

How Does Voting Work on AGT: Fantasy League?
How Does Voting Work on AGT: Fantasy League?

You’re not going to like the answer to this one. Just like the other AGT spinoffs, viewers’ votes won’t actually count towards deciding the winner of Fantasy League. Instead, a pre-selected group of audience members, “representing the viewers at home,” will decide which five acts proceed to the semifinals each week.

The judges also have a say in which acts gets to move forward. Each judge gets one Golden Buzzer, which they can either use to send one of their own acts to the finals or to steal one act from another judge. Either way, the recipient of the Golden Buzzer is guaranteed a spot in the finals.
