The 81st Golden Globe Awards kicked off with an awkward start Sunday night during host Jo Koy's monologue.

The stand-up comedian, who told the audience he only got the hosting role 10 days earlier, started the 2024 ceremony by poking fun at nominated films.

Koy joked that "Oppenheimer" needed to be "another hour" and called "Barbie" a movie about "a plastic doll with big boobies," the latter of which was met with awkward stares from Margot Robbie and the film's director Greta Gerwig.

Koy even apologized to the audience following a joke about the NFL and Taylor Swift, who was in the audience and nominated for her fifth Golden Globe.

"As you know, we came on after a football double header," he said. "The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL (is) on the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift."

The camera cut to an unamused Swift taking a sip of her cocktail.

"I swear... Sorry about that," Koy offered.
