‘Age of Adaline’ Director Lee Toland Krieger Set for Blackfriars Massacre Movie

Lakeshore Entertainment has hired “The Age of Adaline” director Lee Toland Krieger for “Blackfriars,” a comedy about the 1978 massacre in Boston that left five dead.

Producers are Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, along with Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis from Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures. No cast is currently in place.

“Blackfriars,” written by Chris Bremner, made the 2015 Blacklist. It centers on the true story of a Boston police officer and a con man-turned-witness, who become unlikely friends hiding out in Bermuda, ultimately perpetrating a con on the Boston DA they were tasked to serve.

The massacre, believed to be over cocaine, claimed four criminals and former television investigative news reporter John Kelly. The shooters who carried out the murders have never been caught.

“The Age of Adaline” starred Blake Lively as a woman who stopped ageing after an accident at the age of 29. Lakeshore produced “Adaline,” which grossed $65 million worldwide.

Toland Krieger also directed “The Vicious Kind” and “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” and remains attached to direct Lionsgate’s “Ascendant: The Divergent Series” before the studio pulled the plug on the movie in favor of making it into a TV series.

Lakeshore was a producer on STX’s horror film “The Boy,” which grossed over $60 million worldwide earlier this years. Its “American Pastoral” generated a modest $149,038 at 50 locations last weekend and its fifth “Underworld” movie is set to open in January.

Toland Krieger is repped by UTA and Anonymous Content. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
