The Afterparty Season 2 Finale Recap: Edgar’s Killer Is Finally Unmasked, But Where Does That Leave Zoë and Aniq?

Everyone had the means, motive and opportunity to kill Edgar Minnows. Sooooo, whodunit already?

In the Season 2 finale of The Afterparty, Danner and Aniq are racing to connect the dots, only to at last realize that no one saw Zoë at the afterparty. (Ruh-roh, Shaggy.) When they finally get her in the hot seat, she reveals (via campy horror film) that when she went to slip her maid of honor speech into Grace’s bag, the dog went crazy and attacked her, glowing red eyes and all! The scuffle led to her tossing the pooch out the window, and thus, her big admission is: She killed the dog. (She didn’t, really. The dog survived the fall by landing on the trampoline.)

The sheriff (oh, hey Martin Mull!) barely investigates before claiming that the bride did it. Sheriff Mull agrees to give Danner and Aniq five minutes to unravel their latest theory and review some footage. They believe the killer is Ulysses. He was trying to kill Feng, but the poison reached the wrong target. They ask Vivian to fill in some blanks. Ulysses had once again asked her to run away with him, but she told him her husband was kind, sweet and brave enough to give her a second chance even when she didn’t deserve it. She shut Ulysses down completely, all recapped as a cheesy ’80s soap.

Aniq theorizes that Ulysses snagged some Devil’s Trumpet and brewed a concentrated tea in his horn while he was showering. At the afterparty, Ulysses fixed himself and Feng a drink, only Feng then went over to Edgar to get him to try his baobing. Feng accidentally switched glasses with Edgar, and voila! Dead groom. Thanks to Kyler’s footage, Aniq and Danner confirm the glass switch. Feng drank the glass with adderall in it, hence his wild pupils and increased energy all night.

The sheriff says everything they presented is circumstantial. When the other deputies find a teapot in Grace’s room, Zoë says she hid it there when Grace became a suspect. But she drinks the tea to confirm that she believes her sister is unequivocally innocent. Then, Vivian asks Ulysses for a sip from his horn. Ulysses shows caution, and the second Vivian raises the horn to her mouth, Ulysses panics and stops her from drinking BECAUSE HE IS, IN FACT, THE KILLER! His love for his sister-in-law kicks in and he doesn’t let her drink the poison. He says he wanted to help her move on, so she could join him in his life of adventure. He starts to badmouth Feng in front of everyone, so Feng punches him the face. (“Funcle” totally deserved it.)

There’s just one last thing.

Zoë’s parents thank Aniq for saving Grace, to which he starts mumbling incoherently in pure Aniq fashion. Feng says he’ll be a good husband to his daughter, if that should happen one day, finally giving Aniq the approval he’s been seeking. When Aniq and Zoë go for a walk, she proposes to him, which turns into an adorable tête-à-tête full of love.

In the season’s final moments, it’s one year later and Zoë and Aniq are happily married. Danner’s making a movie of the Season 1 murder and guess who’s playing our boy Aniq? Jaleel White — who also just happens to be Danner’s new fiancé!
