AFM: Japanese Animated Film ‘In This Corner of the World’ Sells to France, Germany

Japanese animated film “In This Corner of the World” has secured sales deals ahead of theatrical releases in France, Germany, and Mexico.

The film is produced by Japan’s Genco and represented in international territories by U.K.-based Animatsu Entertainment. Animatsu struck the sales deals during the American Film Market this week in Santa Monica, California.

France’s Septieme Factory acquired the film and plans a Spring 2017 release. The film will also be released in Germany by Universum and Arcade Media in Mexico. A U.K. theatrical release is expected for the second quarter of 2017 through an undisclosed distributor.

Written by Fumiyo Kouno and directed by Sunao Katabuchi, the film is a coming-of-age story set in 1944 and follows a woman who moves to Hiroshima ahead of the atomic bombing of the city.

It was pitched to buyers at the Annecy animation festival and market in June, and had its public premiere in October at the Tokyo festival.
