Pascal Breton’s Federation Studios has launched an international theatrical sales label, Ginger & Fed, teaming up with former TF1 Studio sales executive Sabine Chemaly’s Ginger Films on the new division.

Chemaly will head up the new group, handling both film acquisitions and international sales, focusing on titles with theatrical potential in various international territories. She will work together with Federation’s sales team of Monica Levy, Guillaume Pommier, Sarah Zarka, Lucile Avezard and Jeromine Ader, as well as the company’s business affairs, servicing and marketing teams.

The first project under the new label will be Survive, a post-apocalyptic thriller from Monkey Pack, the Federation Studios-owned producers of Coralie Fargeat’s 2017 action horror hit Revenge. Frédéric Jardin is directing with Émilie Dequenne (Love Affair(s)) and Andreas Pietschmann (Dark) starring as a couple celebrating their son’s birthday on their boat in the middle of the ocean. But when a violent storm brings up hungry creatures from the depths, the family has to fight for their very survival.

Monkey Pack and M.E.S Productions will produce Survive with Ginger & Fed co-repping international sales together with WTFilms, who will present the project to international buyers at the American Film Market in Santa Monica next week. KMBO will release Survive theatrically in France.

Ginger & Fed also have two French comedies on their slate: The cop comedy Rachel’s Game from director Thierry Klifa starring Fanny Ardant and Mathieu Kassovitz; and Claude Zidi Jr.’s Oldies but Goodies featuring Kev Adams and Jean Reno.

Ginger & Fed’s will unveil its full inaugural sales slate at Unifrance‘s Rendez-Vous de Paris in January 2024.

The new label represents a show of confidence in the theatrical market. Chemaly said she was “thrilled” to be joining forces with Federation “at a time when cinema worldwide is on the cusp of a new era and revival…Despite the challenges that our industry is facing, production and distribution partners have shown incredible resilience and our goal with Ginger & Fed is to contribute by reinforcing the strength of French and European cinema in the world.”

Federation is already a force in the film and TV production world, having snatched up several prominent European production companies, including Cheyenne Federation (Notre-Dame) and Cottonwood Media (Find Me In Paris), in France, Britain’s Vertigo Films (Britannia) and Rome-based Fabula Pictures (Netflix’s Baby). The group now operates some 35 production companies worldwide.

Lionel Uzan, director general of Federation Studios said the expansion into international film sales was a natural progression and that Chemaly, was “the perfect match” to spearhead the new division. In her 11 years with TF1 Studios, Chemaly built up the company’s international film and TV sales operation with such theatrical hits as Serial (Bad) Weddings, and TV series including Call My Agent!
