Jennifer Esposito might’ve been thrilled to land a role on one of her favorite shows, but she wasn’t as happy with the way it wrapped up.

The Mob Town star, who appeared on the Showtime drama for a small arc as Noah’s (Dominic West) sister, sat down for an episode of PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing, and she revealed that she was a fan of The Affair before she landed a role on it. In fact, it was her love of the show that led to her being cast in the first place. But as for how it all ended?

“I have to be honest, I petered out a little. I did,” Esposito says. “And I hate to say it because I will always be a fan of the writing but I did — I petered out after a while. It went in a direction that I just didn’t love.”

The Showtime drama has been in the news this week because of former star Ruth Wilson and her exit at the end of season 4. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Wilson’s decision to quit The Affair was due to an alleged “hostile” working environment, discord between her and showrunner Sarah Treem, and frustrations with the amount of nudity required of her. The exposé cites many sources who claim that Wilson, who is restricted by an NDA, took issue with how often she was required to be undressed and the nature of some of the nude scenes she was involved in. Her pushback on these issues led her to being labeled “difficult,” according to THR. (Representatives for Treem and Wilson have not replied to EW’s request for comment.)
