MJF will face Hiroshi Tanahashi for the first time ever at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
During the June 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, NJPW star Hiroshi Tanahashi appeared via a pre-taped promo to challenge MJF to a one-on-one match at Forbidden Door. Tanahashi noted that he came close to winning the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley at last year’s event, and he’s back for another shot at the gold.
Renee Paquette then interviewed MJF after the announcement and he teased not showing up, seemingly making a dig at his Double or Nothing 2022 fanfest no-show. He also called NJPW a “rinky-dink indie fed.” AEW later confirmed the match.
