Aerosmith: Steven Tyler 'Abandoned' Us

Aerosmith have nixed some of their 2016 touring plans because Steven Tyler wants to focus on his solo career, guitarist Brad Whitford said in a recent interview. “We kind of feel a little bit abandoned by him,” he told Billboard. “I guess he seems to think his solo career is going to go great guns, and he doesn’t seem to realize that – in my opinion – his fans around the globe want to see him in the context of Aerosmith and don’t really care for whatever he thinks he’s gonna do.”

He went on to say that there was no talking Tyler out of it, though the trade magazine reports that the band would likely play some South American dates next year. “I can’t put a gun to his head,” he said. “It’s just pretty disappointing.”
Tyler’s main distraction from Aerosmith is an as-yet-untitled country album that will come out in 2016. He issued the single “Love Is Your Name” earlier this year and saw it reach the Top 20 on the Country chart and peak in the lower part of the Hot 100. This past September, he performed a set of countrified Aerosmith songs – as well as covers like Extreme’s “More Than Words” and a few Janis Joplin songs – in Queens, New York.
In his absence, his Aerosmith bandmates have been keeping busy. Whitford will put out a new record by Whitford St. Holmes – a collaboration with former Ted Nugent mouthpiece Derek St. Holmes – titled Reunion next year. His foil, Joe Perry, is also working on a new solo album, following his stint in Hollywood Vampires – a supergroup that also featured Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp.
