Aerosmith farewell tour affected by Steven Tyler injury. Is the Knoxville show postponed?

Aerosmith’s farewell has come much sooner than expected. Lead singer Steven Tyler has a severe vocal injury that is forcing the legendary band to postpone all shows of its final tour, which was scheduled to stop in Knoxville in January.

Aerosmith announced the decision to postpone all the dates for the “Peace Out” tour until 2024 in a statement released Sept. 29.

“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care,” the statement read.

“I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!” Tyler added.

Has Aerosmith’s show in Knoxville been postponed?

The “Peace Out” tour kicked off on Sept. 3 and Aerosmith was initially scheduled to perform at Thompson-Boling Arena Jan. 13, 2024.

Only a few hours after Aerosmith’s announcement of the postponed tour, a spokesperson for Thomson-Boling could not confirm to Knox News whether the Knoxville show had officially been postponed. But all currently scheduled shows “must be postponed to sometime in 2024,” according to the band’s statement.

Thompson-Boling will share more details when the band makes further arrangements to schedule new concert dates.

Tickets already bought will be honored for a potentially rescheduled Knoxville show, and fans can obtain refunds if they are unable to attend the new date, according to Thompson-Boling.

What happened to Steven Tyler’s voice?

Steven Tyler, 75, sustained a vocal cord injury earlier this month during the band’s third show of the tour that caused bleeding. He was given doctor’s order not to sing for the 30 days, causing several tour dates to be postponed, USA TODAY reports.

The band’s latest statement revealed Tyler’s injury requires additional care because he also fractured his larynx.

"He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential," the band said.

Founded more than 50 years ago in Boston, Massachusetts, Aerosmith has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, according to the band’s global brand management agency.

Aerosmith played Knoxville as far back as an October 1975 Knoxville Civic Coliseum show. In December 2003, the band was double-billed alongside KISS at Thompson-Boling Arena. Coincidentally, KISS is making its own stop in Knoxville Nov. 24 for the "End of the Road Tour."
