Aerial Images Show Extent of California Flooding Following Storms

Newly released satellite imagery shows extensive flooding in parts of California after atmospheric river storms brought historic rainfall that led to widespread damage in numerous counties.

The before-and-after images, from Planet Labs PBC, show areas across California most affected by the flooding.

The floods knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people and contributed to at least 20 deaths, according to NBC.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the cost of damage could total as much as $1 trillion.

One area pictured is the Bay Area, where the National Weather Service reported record-breaking rainfall, tallying “the wettest 22-day period since January 14, 1862.”
