Adrienne Bailon-Houghton is getting real about the cost of motherhood.

When speaking with PEOPLE during her LA VOÛTE brand pop-up tour on April 20, she opened up about her million-dollar in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey before she and husband Israel Houghton welcomed their son, Ever James, via surrogate almost two years ago.

“I only did eight cycles of IVF, but that doesn’t include the amount of IUIs I did and every other kind of imaginable treatments that you could imagine for fertility,” she explained. “So it was a pretty tough six years of trying to have my son.”

The former 3LW member then revealed that her fertility treatments “easily” cost “over a million [dollars].”

She did express that she “recognizes” this cost is “not realistic for the average person,” but feels it was worth the investment.

When first opening up about her infertility struggles, Bailon shared on The Real how she thought it “would happen so easily” and that wasn’t the case.

“I’ve had to come to peace with that it’ll happen when it’s God’s timing and I believe in that and I have faith in all of that,” said the now 40-year-old. “But it can be really discouraging and it can be really frustrating.”

She and Houghton surprised the world in August 2022 when they introduced Ever to the world.

“Our baby boy is here & we are so in love! […] He is worth every tear, every disappointment, every delayed prayer, every IVF cycle, every miscarriage. Everything. All we feel is joy and overwhelming love & gratitude,” said the former daytime TV host. “Grateful to God, to our angel surrogate and to all of our friends and family who have stood with us for over 5 years on this journey. He’s here and we have never been happier to lose sleep! #HappilyEverHoughton.”

In January 2023, Bailon shared that she still has dreams of becoming pregnant with her second child on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “I still do have a dream of maternity photos and what that feels like. I want to experience that. I haven’t given up hope. I say I’m either, like literally, the most delusional person or the most hopeful human being. I’m gonna lean on hopeful,” she stated.
