Adobe made an AI gingerbread house for each state. Here’s what Florida's looks like

HGTV's 2024 Dream Home on Anastasia Island has HGTV fans obsessed with "coastal comfort chic" homes. But Adobe's artificial intelligence may have come up with a chic, coastal Florida home that's even cuter — and it's a gingerbread house.

Adobe Firefly is a free suite of creative generative artificial intelligence tools that fit into the Adobe Creative Cloud. There are many different things you can do with this stand-alone web-based application, but for its “State Sweets” project, Adobe used the “text to image” feature.

The Adobe team typed a description of each state’s essence and how it might be captured in a gingerbread house and the application gave an image for each of the 50 states.

Florida’s gingerbread house is surrounded by blue waves of icing and swirling, whimsical clouds. Here’s a look at Adobe’s Floridian gingerbread house and a quick summary of how to use Adobe Firefly.

Florida’s gingerbread house isn’t realistic, but it’s really cute and a lot more whimsical than some of the other states’ AI-generated cookie homes. And it is appropriately named the "Sunshine Getaway."

Although this gingerbread house seems to be built at sea level and surrounded by water on three sides, its shorefront gingerbread gazebo, wrap-around porch and palm tree-shaded sugar sand yard look inviting.

Adobe gave Firefly the following sentence to end up with this result: “Design a gingerbread villa surrounded by palm trees and sandy shores, embodying Florida's vacation paradise.”

If Adobe's AI didn't create the Floridian gingerbread house of your dreams, there's a similar list from Buzzfeed. Their list has a less cartoon-ish rendering of what a Florida-themed gingerbread house might look like.

How do I use text to image on Firefly?

If you want to make your own AI-generated image according to what you think Florida’s gingerbread house would look like, you can use Adobe Firefly’s app or in your web browser.

Go to the Adobe Firefly website and click on the “text to image” tile. That will take you to a new page, where you’ll see examples of Firefly-generated images and what looks like a search bar at the bottom of the screen.

Click on the search bar button and begin typing your prompt. The more specific you are, the more accurate the image will be to what you’re imagining.

If you want to make a gingerbread house that reflects Florida’s swamplands instead of a beachy paradise, you could type something like “Design a whimsical gingerbread house that reflects Florida’s marshes and swamplands, surrounded by Spanish moss and Cyprus trees.”

That exact prompt will give you something like this image:

You can write as little or as much as you want and try different prompts to compare the difference in the results you are given. You can download your AI-generated gingerbread house pictures by hovering over the image and clicking “more options,” which will take you to an option to download the photo.

Do you have to pay for Adobe Firefly?

You can use Adobe Firefly with or without an Adobe subscription. You can use it for free, or buy into a premium plan to be able to create and edit more images than you would with the free plan.

Adobe Firefly costs around $5 each month and is $50 if paid annually.

A subscription to Firefly is included in Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions and some features from Firefly AI are integrated in other Adobe products. For example, Adobe Photoshop’s “generative fill” tool, which can create an AI-generated background for any photo, is a feature from Firefly.

Adobe Firefly is anticipated to get a facelift pretty soon, with new tools like a 3D image creator coming soon. But for now, Adobe Firefly users have access to a text-to-image AI-powered photo creator, generative fill for photo backgrounds and text effects that allow you to add texture to lettering on your images.

The most appealing thing about this AI is that you don’t have to worry about images being generated from copyrighted photos. According to Adobe, Firefly was created to only pull material from openly-sourced images, meaning it’s commercially safe to use.

Adobe Firefly only uses images that are copyright-free, content with an expired copyright or images from Adobe stock images. And Adobe Stock contributors have the option to either be paid for the use of their images or withdraw their images from the database Firefly uses to generate new photos.
