Adele Says Her Break from Drinking Is Over: 'This Is Red Wine Weather'

The Grammy winner previously told fans she was taking a break from alcohol, calling herself "literally borderline alcoholic" in her 20s

Adele is toasting to the end of her 2023 Las Vegas residency.

The “I Drink Wine” singer, 35, has decided to imbibe once again after taking a step back from alcoholic beverages.

As she prepares to enjoy some time off before starting her 2024 ​​Weekends with Adele tour, the Grammy winner told the crowd at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace that she was lifting her self-imposed drinking ban, as reported by the Daily Mail on Wednesday.

“I'm just going to chill. I'm annoyed as well that I'm sick because this is red wine weather,” she said.

“I stopped drinking, but obviously now I'm ready to start again because it is my break.”

Her upcoming shows begin in January 2024 after a 32-date extension was announced in late October.

Adele detailed the negative health effects of alcohol for her, as well as how it affects her performance.

"I can't drink red wine ever when I'm singing because I don't know about you, but red wine f---s me up. I cannot handle it,” she added while chatting with the audience between songs.

Instead of a glass of red, the “Easy On Me” songstress said that she’d shifted to sparkling water and half white wine with ice instead. She also said that red wine gives her “the worst hangover” and “it just gets rid of my voice.”

The “Rolling in the Deep” singer also has plans to “treat myself” with an expensive bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape that she’s been saving.

During a mid-October show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Adele told her audience “I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago.”

She admitted “it's boring” for her to give up the booze, but she felt that it was necessary after drinking a bit too much in her younger days.

“I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my 20s,” Adele revealed. “But I miss it so much.”

Alcohol wasn’t the only thing she axed from her diet — the star confessed she’d also “cut out caffeine.”

Adele also joked with a fan that she was envious that they’d been drinking all day before her performance. “So enjoy your whiskey sour. I'm very, very jealous,” she said.

The “Make You Feel My Love” hitmaker has opened up previously about breaks from the bottle.

In a November 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Adele said her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki and death of her father Mark Evans from bowel cancer in 2021 made her reevaluate drinking.

"That’s one great way of really sort of getting to know yourself, is just drinking water and being sober as anything,” she said in the CBS special.

She also joked that fans can always expect her to open her sets with her 2015 hit “Hello” because it would be “a bit weird” not to.
