Addison Rae Reflects on Debut EP and Teases New Music to Come: 'I'm Always in the Studio' (Exclusive)

Rae tells PEOPLE about releasing last year's 'AR' EP, which includes a song previously recorded by Lady Gaga: "I would love to know if she heard it"

When it comes to music, Addison Rae is just getting started.

The 23-year-old singer, dancer and social media personality released her debut EP last year, and Rae's well-aware fans have been loving the four-song project — and want more from her pop career.

"It's been a joy and so exciting and so fulfilling and rewarding, and I feel like it's always so nice to just put something out," Rae tells PEOPLE of her AR EP in an interview about her role in Nerds' first-ever Super Bowl commercial.

After releasing her first single "Obsessed" in 2021, the performer went quiet on the music front — before several of her demos leaked onto the internet the following year.

"To this day, I still have no idea how that happened, but everything happens for a reason," says Rae of the leaks. "After the songs surfaced online, unbeknownst to me, I was like, 'Oh, I wish there was a way that I could have these out.'"

As fans waited for an official release, demo versions of songs including "I Got It Bad" and "2 Die 4" made waves online and even found their way into DJ sets at nightclubs.

In August 2023, Rae surprised fans by releasing the EP, featuring the two aforementioned tracks as well as "Nothing On (But the Radio)" and "It Could've Been U," both of which had also leaked.

"I love those songs so much. They're such a huge part of my life," she says of the project. "It's always so exciting to see something come to fruition that you worked hard on."

Upon the songs initially surfacing online, many listeners were especially excited to hear "Nothing On (But the Radio)," as demo versions of the track recorded by Lady Gaga previously leaked more than a decade ago but were never released.

Rae's not sure if Lady Gaga has heard her version since its official release. "I'm obviously the biggest Lady Gaga fan. She's always been such a pioneer for pop and experimenting," she says. "I would love to know if she heard it. It's such a different version than hers, so it would be interesting [to know] what she thinks."

Fans will be happy to know Rae's working on more music, though she's tight-lipped on when it'll come out. "I'm always in the studio, so we'll see what happens," the Thanksgiving star teases. First, she may just deliver a few live performances of the AR tracks: "I definitely want to bring them all to life."
