Adan Canto, a Mexican-American actor known for roles on The Cleaning Lady, Designated Survivor, and Narcos, among a number of other projects, has died at the age of 42 following a private battle with appendiceal cancer.

Canto starred as gangster Arman Morales on two seasons of the FOX crime drama The Cleaning Lady. Filming on a third season began in December, and while Canto missed the initial days of shooting due to poor health, he had hoped to rejoin the production in the new year. According to Deadline, the series will honor him in its Season 3 premiere.

From 2016-2019, Canto portrayed Aaron Shore in the ABC/Netflix political thriller Designated Survivor. His other notable credits included as Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara on Season 1 of Netflix’s Narcos and as Sunspot in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Canto chose to keep his illness private until his death. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children.
