Adam Sandler Returns to Network TV for Buddy Kevin James

Adam Sandler appeared on Monday’s episode of Kevin James’s CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait. Sandler played James’s former police partner who is still on the job, while James played a retired cop. When Sandler’s character gets a “fit new rookie” played by UFC fighter Chris Weidman as his partner, James gets jealous and “sets out to show his old friend what he’s missing.” In other words, there were plenty of opportunities for some classic Sandler/James shenanigans.

Sandler and James are practically a package deal in movies, having co-starred in many big-screen comedies, including I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Don’t Mess with the Zohan, and the Grown Ups. Sandler also produced James’s big films, including the Paul Blart: Mall Cop films and Here Comes the Boom.

And if you’re thinking this is history in the comedy TV making, you’re wrong — this isn’t the first time Sandler and James have buddied up on television. Sandler made a guest appearance on James’s star-making series The King of Queens back in 2007.

Kevin Can Wait airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Watch: Kevin James and Jimmy Fallon are hilariously terrible at slapjack:
