Adam Sandler paid tribute today to his Happy Gilmore co-star Carl Weathers, remembering the late actor as a “true legend.”

“A true great man,” Sandler posted on X/Twitter. “Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. So much fun to be around always. Smart as hell. Loyal as hell. Funny as hell. Loved his sons more than anything. What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best times with him every time we saw him. Love to his entire family and Carl will always be known as a true legend.”

In the 1996 comedy, Weathers played the one-handed Derick “Chubbs” Peterson, golf pro-turned-golf coach who befriends Sandler’s title character and guides him through improving his game. In return, Gilmore presents Chubbs with the head of the alligator that bit off his hand, a surprise that has disastrous results.
