Drew Barrymore recently took to her own talk show to confirm the sequel for Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore.

In a recent teaser clip posted to her Instagram, she spoke about Sandler having already written a screenplay for the sequel. The show host started the video by confirming her excitement, "I want it. I need it. And I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison," which is another one of Sandler's films. Barrymore and Sandler have maintained a strong friendship over the years and were often considered one of the most recognizable rom-com duos. Having worked in many films together, Barrymore has often talked about her fond memories filming with Sandler. Continuing in the clip, Barrymore stated, "I sent Sandler a video of that, and then he sent me another video back, and I'm waiting to see if he's confirming about the Happy Gilmore 2 script." Towards the end of the video, Barrymore checks her phone for a text from Sandler before announcing, "This just in, I have breaking news. I'll just say this, from my source, that it is in process." She continues to add, "There is a process, and that process is in process."

Barrymore was inspired to ask Sandler about the project after hearing that Christopher McDonald, who famously played Shooter McGavin in the original 1996 film, said that Sandler showed him the first draft of the script He had said on the Ken Carman Show, "I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, 'McDonald, you're gonna love this. I said 'What?' He says, 'How about that,' and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2. Maybe you should cut that out because I don't wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, 'Well, that would be awesome.'"
