Adam Paulsen Joins Valparaiso Pictures As Managing Partner

EXCLUSIVE: Adam Paulsen, a former VP at 30WEST and CAA film finance agent, has joined venture capitalist David Carrico’s indie production company Valparaiso Pictures as managing partner. The company, which launched in August to produce and invest in film and TV projects, also said today it elevated Bobby Hoppey to VP Development to help oversee the slates.

Valparaiso’s pipeline already includes After Perfect, a feature film based on Christina McDowell’s 2016 memoir that is being adapted by What They Had director Elizabeth Chomko and produced with Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Joshua Thurston. It also is producing and financing Straight Up, the feature directorial debut of James Sweeney who stars in the romantic comedy alongside Katie Findlay.

The company also executive produced The Sound of Silence, which is world premiering in competition at next month’s Sundance Film Festival.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with my longtime friend and frequent collaborator to continue advancing our mission of championing creative voices that inspire us,” Carrico said. “Adam has been instrumental in our growth thus far, and I look forward to building the next chapter of Valparaiso Pictures together.”

Paulsen was at CAA for five years before moving to 30WEST, where he helped oversee its advisory business and worked on films including I, Tonya among many others. As an agent, he repped production companies including Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, End Cue, Killer Films and Rough House, as well as numerous Sundance filmmakers, and helped package, finance and sell films including Demolition, Den of Thieves, Ingrid Goes West, Cop Car and Patti Cake$.

He began his career working for Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, New Line founder Bob Shaye, and for director Larry Charles.
