Adam Levine apologizes after 'horrible' Maroon 5 set draws backlash: 'I struggled a lot'
Adam Levine is apologizing after a controversial performance.
The Maroon 5 frontman garnered backlash after his band's Thursday night performance at the Viña del Mar festival in Chile, where fans complained his bad attitude rubbed them the wrong way.
Levine took to his Instagram story Friday to apologize for his behavior during the live concert, which he said also broadcast on Chilean TV.
"I'm so excited and passionate about concerts, and about being my best and the band being our best and being our best for you guys," he said. "There were some things holding me back sonically last night, and I let them get to me, and it impacted how I was behaving onstage which was unprofessional, and I apologize for that."
In a statement to USA TODAY, a rep of Levine shared that the band experienced technical difficulties during their performance, including issues with the monitor, as well as the in-ears Levine used to hear himself sing.
According to Levine, his negative attitude was due to frustration with how he sounded.

"I struggled a lot and sometimes it's really hard for me to mask the struggle," he said. "And for that I did let you guys down, and I apologize."
His apology followed several angry tweets made by viewers.
User @Ptitsa_A described the singer as "horrible" and "totally angry" throughout the show, while @burrtrice wrote that Levine "not only did sing off-key and reluctantly but also stormed out cussing everyone out."

She added the band also started their set late, though Levine's rep denied this.
User @isaelaaa wrote Levine owes fans more.
"His attitude towards the fans that paid for a ticket was disrespectful," she added.
Levine capped off his apology saying that coming to South America to perform is one of Maroon 5's favorite things to do, even though Thursday night "wasn't our best."
The band's next performance is in Santiago, the capital of Chile, on Friday night, and they have seven additional performance dates scheduled throughout South America afterward.
