Adam Driver stars as Enzo Ferrari in the new trailer for Michael Mann’s upcoming biographical drama about the Italian car manufacturer.

Ferrari will receive a wide release on December 25th, 2023 via Neon. In addition to Driver, the cast includes Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Gabriel Leone, Sarah Gadon, Jack O’Connell, and Patrick Dempsey.

Set during the summer of 1957, the film finds Driver’s Enzo Ferrari in crisis. Per the official plot synopsis: “Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers’ passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.”

Ferrari is not to be confused with Ford v Ferrari, the 2019 biographical drama from James Mangold set nine years later, when a group of American and Swedish engineers set out to build a race car capable of defeating Ferrari’s racing team. Nor is it the same film as the Formula 1 flick starring Brad Pitt that is currently in production. It really is a banner time for car racing movies.

Depending on the success of Ferrari, Mann’s next film could be a sequel to his 1995 heist classic, Heat, with Driver in talks to have a starring role.
