Radio personality Adam Carolla admits he isn't one to cry easily.

But the comedian and former Dancing with the Stars competitor, 59, reveals in this week's issue of PEOPLE that he was moved to tears when Suzanne Somers died in October.

"I was quite close with her and Alan Hamel," says Carolla, who also appeared as Avocado on The Masked Singer. "I really, really loved Suzanne and they were a great couple. We’d go to their house for dinner, and they were a delight. I was totally caught off guard when she passed. That was a very sad moment."

Carolla, who hosts the podcast The Adam Carolla Show, spoke to PEOPLE for One Last Thing:

Last time I danced
At a wedding about two months ago. I’m not the first one out there. You can’t be the first off the dance floor either, because it looks like you hurt yourself or you’re too drunk.

Last superstition
In the mornings I swim across our pool, and I have to go down and touch the drains before I get out. I’m thinking, “Just get out of the pool.” And then, “Yeah, but do you want to risk it?”

Last time I faced a fear
Doing Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer was scary because I can’t do either one of those. I just have low self-esteem.

Last time I sang out loud
I’ll sing when I can’t remember names of songs. I’ll say to people, “You know that song, [he sings] ‘These eyes cry every night for you?’” And they don’t know it. Then we play it, and they go, “Oh, that song.”
