Buccaneers get trolled by ad suggesting Carli Lloyd as solution to kicking woes

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might have a kicker curse. Ever since the Bucs released Matt Bryant before the 2009 season, some fans have believed that their kickers have been cursed. Every critical miss only strengthens the case. Matt Gay missed several kicks on Sunday, including a 34-yard field goal that would have given the Bucs the win; instead, the New York Giants won 32-31.

Secret Deodorant thinks it has the solution to the Bucs’ kicking woes. That solution? Carli Lloyd, the talented and celebrated soccer player. Secret even took out an ad in the Tampa Bay Times to spread the word.

Secret is definitely promoting sports equality (and their own deodorant) more than truly suggesting that Lloyd could fix the Bucs’ problems. But Lloyd might have the chops to actually make it in the NFL — she made a 55-yard field goal at Philadelphia Eagles practice back in August, which set off a conversation about whether a woman could kick in the NFL. (The answer is yes, a woman could kick in the NFL.)

Lloyd herself even said that she’s interested in pursuing the opportunity to be an NFL kicker. However, she’s elected to put that off until 2020 so she can honor her current commitments and train properly. But it looks like Lloyd’s still game to make a run at it.

There’s still a lot of NFL season left, of course. But if the Bucs are still feeling that kicker curse in 2020, they should at least give Lloyd a tryout and see what she’s got.
