ACTU presents Duo Arpeggione

Oct. 12—THOMASVILLE- Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) presents a Friday at Noon concert featuring Duo Arpeggione on Friday, October 20 at Thomasville First Church, located at 425 N Broad St, Thomasville, GA 31792.

Duo Arpeggione features renowned cellist Claudio Jaffé, who has been hailed by The New York Times as "an elegant and accomplished artist," who earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Miami.

"We are excited about the caliber of these artists and the program is going to be great," stated series coordinator and Professor of Music Dr. Karl Barton. The program will feature works by Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Edvard Grieg, and Arthur Foote.

Dr. Claudio Jaffé fascinates his audiences with his colorful and passionate virtuosity. As a recitalist and chamber musician, Jaffé has performed in prestigious concert halls around the world, including the Weill Recital Hall, Town Hall, and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City; the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires; Sala Cecilia Meireles in Rio de Janeiro; Sociedade Cultura Artistica in São Paulo; Wigmore Hall in London; Suntory Hall in Tokyo; and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. His performance was found to be "eloquent with pathos and tenderness" by the New London Day, which further commented on Jaffé's "superb intonation, robust sound, and overall musical command."

A winner of the International Villa-Lobos Cello Competition, Jaffé has performed with international orchestras such as the Slovak Philharmonic, the Calgary Symphony, and the Brazilian orchestras of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraíba, and Goiânia. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Jaffé began his cello studies at the age of seven and gave his first public concert at the age of eleven. Jaffé earned his undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees from Yale University under Parisot's tutelage. Jaffé studied in Master classes and special workshops with great masters of the cello including Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, Paul Tortelier, Tokyo String Quartet, Janos Starker, Nathaniel Rosen, and Ralph Kirshbaum.

Dr. Catherine Lan was recognized as a child prodigy and made her international debut at the age of eight, performing in Japan following her winning at the Junior Original Composition International Competition. Since then, she has performed in Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, Mexico, France, Slovenia, Croatian, Hungary, Spain, Italy, China, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the USA at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, Victoria Hall in Singapore, and National Concert Hall in Taiwan. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including Milwaukee Symphony, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Sinfonia of the North Shore, British-Columbia Chamber, Fifth Avenue Chamber, Braddell Heights Symphony, Frost Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Broward Symphony, Palm Beach Atlantic Symphony, and Edmonton Symphony. Dr. Lan has also collaborated with distinguished artists and ensembles including James Buswells, David Requiro, Ayano Ninomiya, Aspen String Trio, Henschel String Quartet, Maxwell String Quartet, Delray String Quartet, and Bergonzi String Quartet.

Dr. Lan received her Bachelor of Music from University of British-Columbia, Master of Music from Indiana University (Bloomington), and Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Miami. Dr. Lan currently serves on the faculty of Broward College, performs globally with Steinway Artist, Tao Lin, as Duo Beaux Arts.
